Ancora una volta l’Italia – Italy Again

October 16th, 2010 · 2 Brilliant Opinions · International Travel

I am travelling to Italy next fall and I am giddy about it already.  Ten  years ago we honeymooned in Rome, Florence and Venice.  Although Big P grew up in London, he had travelled to Milan, but not the other great Italian cities.  We discovered them together.

I found this 1000 Lire bill in our wedding album. I was pretty excited, until I realized it was approximately 75 cents in US currency.

Next fall, I am travelling to Tuscany with my  girlfriend and former college roommate.  We are doing the urban girl’s version of “Eat,Pray, Love” – “Eat, Eat,Eat.”  She  is super smart, multilingual and this is her first trip to Europe.  A virgin – I love it!  Our trip is organized by AHI Travel in conjunction with Brown University.

We arrive in Florence, and we are scheduled to see the Ponte Vecchio and its surrounding shops.  This trip focuses on Tuscany and we will be travelling to Cortona, Assisi/Perugia, Pienza/Montepulciano and Siena.  Our trip is ten days with two days devoted to travel.  I have not received airline information yet but outbound flights are from New York and Boston.

Our tour highlights include visits to the Diocesan Museum and Romanesque cathedral in Cortona.  In Assisi, we will see the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.  There is a demonstration of Tuscan cooking by the owner of the award winning Restaurant Tonino and a private wine tasting at a winery in the Montalcino area.  Michelangelo’s David awaits us in Florence – I remember seeing it during my honeymoon – but I am excited to view it again with my girl.
