One of my favorite places we visited in London was Greenwich. Greenwich is home to Greenwich Park, a 183 acre oasis. We spent our time strolling, picnicking, and people watching. It’s a great place to bring a ball or frisbee to toss around with your kids while on vacation. In addition, Greenwich Park is home to two fantastic attractions – The Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum.
At The Royal Observatory we saw a show on the origins of space travel. In addition we learned that Greenwich is home of the prime meridian.
Greenwich Mean Time is used by scientists, navigators and travelers. You can even stand astride the longitudinal line that divides the Earth into east and west hemispheres. The National Maritime Museum is free and has great exhibits on boats, sailing and the history of British exploration.
The Cutty Sark (which was used to import tea from China) was under renovation – so unfortunately we missed visiting it. Greenwich Market is host to a number of tradespersons and vendors of unique gift items. It’s definitely worth a visit.
