Last year, after my return from London and all the hoopla surrounding the royal wedding, I decided to host a pre-mother’s day tea party with my mother, sisters, friends and nieces. This year the “tradition” continued. We were blessed with perfect weather in NYC for an outdoor garden party.
I asked my guests to wear a beautiful hat (my way of “forcing” moms to show themselves some love). In addition, this year I chose to fundraise for a local Brooklyn charity – Little Essentials.
Sandie Trombert, the founder and director of Little Essentials, attended and spoke passionately about her mission to serve mothers and families in need in the Brooklyn community. When I think of her awesome story it makes me want to scream, “THINK BIG.” It felt great to see Sandie pack up her car with diapers, a breast pump, strollers, clothing, and envelopes with monetary donations. We were living well and doing good.
The luncheon also served as a launch for my new part-time venture as a Stella & Dot jewelry stylist. I love Stella & Dot jewelry and I was introduced to the opportunity by Quay Watkins who held a trunk show for a mutual friend (who is running a 5K to raise funds for another charity). Hmmm… this seemed like fun and a great way to engage with other women. It got me thinking about merging my love for parties and philanthropy with a fashion forward company. I’m calling this new venture and my “WHY” for doing it – jewelanthropy.
A few photos of the festivities. I love the “hatitude” on these ladies.

I’m calling this hat “wedding dress for a head” – I didn’t want to take it off.
Check out the Little Essentials website and consider making a donation to this great charity. I’ll keep the virtual trunk show open for a week. A portion of your jewelry purchase will be donated to Little Essentials.
I hope you had a great Mother’s Day. Live well. Do Good.
