Florence in recent years has seen a significant increase in second-home owners and foreign buyers purchasing apartments to list as rental properties. Many of these apartments are also in very poor condition—often dating back to the 1970s and 1980s—and these older styles are generally not suitable for modern short-term rentals without significant renovation. This ultimately means that renovations and construction work are ongoing throughout the city and owners carrying out said works are under no obligation to inform other residents in the building, nor to provide details on the duration of the works or when the noisiest phases will occur. Florence city council allows construction and building work to take place Monday-Sunday, 8am to 8pm.
