Recenty renovated, this is a beautiful 300 year old Perigord farmhouse situated in the peaceful hamlet of Les Valettes on the edge of the rolling green countryside of the Perigord-Limousin Natural Park.
The house is large enough for two families but cosy enough for a smaller group, as it is on three floors.
Just 2km from the quaint village of Saint-Sulpice D'Excideuil and 6km from the lovely medieval town of Excidueil, the house is ideal for those seeking peace, quiet and relaxation but wanting some amazing sites and fun outdoor activities. The farmhouse is surrounded by stunning countryside, with lots of marked countryside walks and is ideally located for visiting the many attractions the Dordogne has to offer.
This characterful farmhouse is laid out over three floors and is perfect for two families.
Just 6km away, Excideuil is a charming town with an attractive town square and a castle dating back to the 12th Century, which successfully repelled Richard the Lionheart on three different occasions. There are cafes and restaurants and a brand new supermarket as well as many independent shops, a boulangerie, patisserie and butcher (which sells beef from our neighbour) and of course the Thursday market, when the town leaps to life with reputedly the busiest market in the region.
Places to visit very close by include the UNESCO World Heritage Chateau de Hautefort, the village of Tourtoirac with the remains of an attractive abbey and caves which are open to the public, Saint-Jean-de-Cole which has been officially classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France and the fairytale Chateau de Jumilhac.
It is also about an hour from the historic towns of Sarlat, Domme, La Roque-Gageac and Brantome.
Set in over an acre of gardens with lots of space for children to enjoy, there is a private newly renovated 10x5 metre pool overlooking a walnut orchard, with enough sunloungers for everyone. it truly is a place to unwind and enjoy everything holidaying in France has to give.
If you like peace and quiet, this is the place to be, the only noise you will hear is the singing of the birds and the woodpecker in the tree.
For alfresco dining, you can choose to sit in the shade of one of the many mature trees or on the sunny decking.
Inside, the house is full of character and French charm, with oak beams, beautiful floors and a stone fireplace.
There is a large comfortable living room with a french door opening to the decking at the back of the house and another to the garden at the front, and a separate TV room with DVD player and board games. The kitchen has an oak table that extends to seat 10 people and is very well equiped with everything you will need.
There are 4 bedrooms, plus a quirky mezzinine with a double mattress, ideal for older children/teenagers. The house has 3 shower rooms (2 en-suite).
On the first floor there is a children's bedroom with bunk beds, which is next to a shower room. Up a couple of stone steps is the family suite which has a large master bedroom, adjoining bedroom with a single bed and extra pull-out mattress (a travel cot is also available on request) and en-suite shower room.
On the second floor is another family suite with double bed and double mattress on the mezzanine and en-suite shower room.
The Dordogne is a wonderful part of France. It has everything...... beauty, history, tasty local delicacies. Les Valettes is the perfect place to relax by the pool with a book and a glass of wine and for those with a bit of adventure, lots of sporting activities to enjoy.
