Our gite is situated in the lovely commune of Saint-Coutant an area very popular with walkers with close access to signposted guided trails to explore the countryside and great for dog walking.
In the summer the countryside is a blaze of yellow sunflowers. Just up the track from the gite is a garden nursery that is open to the public and ideal for purchasing something nice for the garden at home.
The Gite is situated between the tourist town of Melle and the market town of Lezay giving easy access to lots of tourist attractions in Deux-Sevres, Charente, Vienne and Charente Maritime, It is within days driving of Calais and benefits from a high number of sunshine hours every year.
Melle is a pleasant town where you can visit the Silver Mines, St Hilaire Eglise (Church), a motorcycle museum and has a great market on a Friday amongst many other things.
Lezay has a popular farmers market every Tuesday morning. It is the largest in the area and is ideal for buying gifts, clothes, bags, fresh fruit & vegetables, cheese, patisserie, bread and wine which are local to this region. After a stroll through the market, you can enjoy lunch at a nearby cafe or restaurant. A Plat de Jour at the various restaurants around the area, offer incredible value and quality.
There is also a large supermarket in the town, two boulangeries, a tabac, banks, pharmacies and a Post Office for convenience.
Lezay also has a lovely recreational area with swings, tennis courts, a fishing lake and a municipal camping area. Close by is a large outdoor pool open to the public.
The property is well situated for those that would like to explore the region further with easy access to the cities of Poitiers, Niort and Angouleme.
If you yearn for peace in a rural, tranquil setting, this is the gite for you.
Walkers and nature lovers will love this area as there are miles of unspoiled surrounding countryside, with stunning views right outside the property.
The gite itself is comfortable with modern conveniences but still has character and charm with stone walls and beams and a touch of French decor. The outside area, in particular, is why we wanted to live here. The grounds are natural and relaxing. The vine-covered terrace and fire pit areas are perfect for those long summer days and stargazing evenings with a glass or 2 of wine.

Bedroom 1
The bedroom is a good size with a double bed.
French doors lead out to a terrace area where you can sit in the morning sun for your coffee at a bistro table and see the lovely views. The en-suite bathroom is off of the bedroom.

The second bedroom has 2 single beds.
Bathrooms
There are two bathrooms - one situated off the main bedroom and the other is accessible for all.
The ensuite bathroom is beautifully light and bright. There is a shower over the jacuzzi bath. A hairdryer is provided.
There is a second bathroom, situated off of the living area, with a powerful shower with plenty of hot water.
Heating
There is a wood-burning stove for use when it's a little chilly. The bedrooms have electric radiators if required. The main bedroom has a ceiling fan for cooling and the French door shutters help keep the room cool.

you are free to wander around. There is a vegetable garden to pick seasonable vegetables.
- The vine-covered terrace with table and chairs is fabulous to sit under to provide shade when
it gets too hot
