Font Remy is a 17th century manor house located 2 km from the pretty fishing village of Mortagne sur Gironde. It has been tastefully furnished
in 4 gîtes surrounded by a 2 hectare enclosed garden with views of the vineyards and sunflowers beyond. There is plenty of space for
children to play, plus swings, balls and badminton and a magnificent heated swimming pool of 15m x 8m which occupies a
prime place in the south facing garden (fenced for security).
The play barn has a ping pong table, table football and billiards, a children's corner, books and board games.
All cottages are well equipped (dishwasher, oven / hob, microwave, washing machine, fridge / freezer,
Satellite TV, cd / dvd, wifi).
All have individual terraces with pergola, gas barbecue, table, chairs and sun loungers. Tennis, horse riding,
bars, restaurants - 5 minutes; Golf, blue flag sandy beaches - 20 minutes. Great country for bird watching and walking.
Lots of historic places to visit. An ideal place to get away from it all.
On-site services: The pride of the place in the south-facing garden is the magnificent heated swimming pool of 15m x 8m.
There are an additional 3m of Roman steps leading young children into the shallow end of 1m and a
fun swimming tip 2.4m deep. The swimming pool is located in view of the individual terraces of all the houses so that parents can keep an eye on the children. The swimming pool is fenced with an automatic locking child safety door. The 2 acre garden is enclosed by walls, so it is impossible for the little ones to escape.
There is a games barn with pool table, table tennis and table football, as well as a children's corner with games,
books, videos and DVDs. Outside there is a pétanque court, swings, a swing and a badminton set, as well as plenty of space for ball games.
Bikes can be hired locally - and there are plenty of country lanes to explore.
Each house has satellite TV and a DVD player, as well as a choice of DVDs. There are games and books for
all ages. Each house has free wifi.
Beaches: Within 20 to 40 minutes by car from Font Remy, you will find some of the best sandy beaches in Europe. In fact, you can go to a different beach every day of the week. The 2 km fine sandy beach classified 3 Michelin stars in Royan is perhaps the most famous and here you can rent the wonderful old blue and white tents to protect you from the hot summer sun from where you can watch the children learn to windsurf, body board or sail at the nautical center.
Our favorite beaches include Saint-Georges-De-Didonne (25 min) where, from the path around the lighthouse on the cliff, there are beautiful views of the Pointe de Grave, the Pointe de Suzac and the Cordouan lighthouse. At Meschers (20 minutes) you will find three beautiful sandy coves with caves and rock pools and excellent beach bars. Or you can go further to Vaux, Nauzan or Saint Palais (45 minutes). The beaches of the Côte Sauvage (50 minutes) have the best waves and fabulous sand dunes.
Royan is a center for water sports such as windsurfing and sailing. There is more surfing and sailing on the Côte Sauvage and Ile d'Oléron. Boat and fishing trips are also offered from Mortagne.
Cycling is one of the most popular pastimes in Charente Maritime. There is a network of quiet alleys winding through the vineyards around Font Remy and Mortagne, and there are many cycle paths in the area. Bring your own bikes or rent them on site. As you might expect, this is a wonderful place to stroll with a breathtaking view of the estuary beyond the vineyards. Golfers are welcomed with excellent courses in Royan, Saintes, Cognac and Bordeaux.
There are always raptors around Font Remy and you will hear and see many black redstarts, cuckoos and hoopoes.
The area as a whole is excellent for spotting migratory birds (especially spring and fall),
birds of prey and wild crowds. There are good horse riding and tennis facilities on site. Fishing, jet-skiing,
parasailing ....
