A beautifully renovated, 17th Century, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, traditional stone and timber house located in a tranquil hamlet just a few minutes from the delightful village of Massignac. The cottage has ancient oak beams and exposed stonework, high ceilings, large, light-filled comfortable rooms and modern amenities.
There is a large dining room with beautiful oak dining table that seats up to 8 people, adjacent to a fully fitted kitchen (dishwasher, American style fridge/freezer, Falcon Range Cooker, microwave, coffee machine, separate pantry). The spacious lounge area is bright and airy with a wood burning stove for the winter. The living room contains a large TV with satelite connection to UK and French television, DVD player and a stereo unit. The house also has internet access, central heating upstairs and underfloor heating downstairs. A separate utility room has a washer & dryer and WC.
On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms available: The Master bedroom has a double bed and ensuite bathroom with a free standing bath; the second bedroom has Double Bunk beds. The other full bathroom has a separate shower.
There is a stone outbuilding, with a covered dining terrace, that faces the garden. There are also 2 small open, outdoor terrace area in the garden - sit in the terrace are in the garden to have a drink, eat and just relax and enjoy the views of the garden and the forest beyond. The garden is a combination of lawn and mature trees and fruit trees, and it runs down to the edge of a small river.
In summer, nectarines, apples and quinces can be freshly picked from the garden and there is always an abundance of grapes hanging from the vine that covers the front of the house.
The house is located close to the Lakes of the Charente (Lac de Mas Chaban and Lac de Lavaud) where there is: swimming, fishing, boating, and non-motorised water sports. There are also lakeside and woodland walks as well as numerous bicycle routes in the surrounding area - there are picnic tables and seating available in and around the lakes - we recommend a local bottle of wine and a picnic lunch! Also located in the area are an Adventure Park, horse riding, a golf course and a range of other outdoor activities.
The nearest village is Massignac, 2 klms away, which has a patisserie/boulangerie, a restaurant, a general store, a pharmacy, a post office, and a tourist information service (English is spoken).
There is also a small weekend morning market next to the Mairie, which has fresh, local fruit and vegetables, cheeses, charcuterie etc.
The surrounding villages Lesignac, Le Lindois, Mouzon, Montemboeuf have a number of bars, cafes, tabacs, restaurants and amenities.
